Here’s is a game changing statement: an online faculty position can be economic salvation for many college teachers. Admittedly, that’s a pretty bold observation, but it is never the less true, and it may be that its boldness is what defines it as a game changer. Now, since the focus is on acquiring online college classes to teach, which is what being in an online faculty position really means in a practical sense, then the business model in play, and despite the overwhelming belief that college teachers are not in business, meaning higher education, is now much different than it once was when state budgets for state colleges and state universities, not to mention community colleges, were larded with tax dollars. The reality today is that there are very few college teachers who are able to sustain themselves economically because of their ever decreasing pay. Since the financial belt is tightening for those college instructors that still have an income from the traditional college courses that they teach, and they are losing what little purchasing power that income give them each and every day, there is a real, immediate need for a new vision of the skill set that is possessed by people with a graduate degree and classroom experience.
