An online faculty position with an accredited online degree program requires a graduate degree and college classroom experience. The reason a graduate degree is required by accredited academic institutions is that the federal financial aid programs require the schools to have a faculty with appropriate academic merit badges before the school is allowed to offer its students federal financial aid. This requirement creates a distinct self-employment opportunity for some people needing extra income. A growing number of educated people, meaning those with master’s degrees in some academic area, driven into unemployment or underemployment are giving serious consideration to teaching online college classes as a way to supplement or even completely replace their incomes.
