There seems to be no little confusion about the definition of the term online instructor job openings in today’s academic/economic landscape. Perhaps it would be useful to examine just how online college faculty positions have overtaken the much more traditional full time faculty position at most community colleges, state colleges and state universities. At some point in the past, the academy decided to use part time academic labor to teach core classes such as composition, introductory math and psychology. At the time, this was a boon for the schools because part time academic labor could be restrained economically by way of a variety of devices such as limiting the number of classes they could teach any given semester, refusing to provide access to group health care benefits that are a guaranteed part of full-time college faculty pay packages, and avoiding contributing to retirement accounts. The new arrangement created an entire army of adjunct faculty members who would never have the chance to earn a living wage from teaching for just one school. This academic/economic was totally in the favor of the school, and since there were great rewards to be reaped from fielding a huge group of adjuncts, there has been no end to it. However, the arrival of college learning online leading to the online bachelor degree and the online teaching masters degree changed the game for those adjuncts that saw computer technology as a way to navigate out of the single campus. The alert college teacher, the faculty adjunct to call them by their right names, have figured out how to teaching online college classes for six or eight schools without ever leaving their chairs. So the online instructor job openings are really for clever adjuncts teaching at an unprecedented number of schools by using the various online college degree programs to their advantage.
Advantage Of Online Instructor Job Openings
The primary advantage of the online instructor job openings is that there are so many of them. The reason there are so many is simply because the number of online college courses being offered to new and returning college students is growing almost beyond belief. It is possible now for a college student to earn an online bachelor degree by taking online business courses, online psychology courses and online English courses. Naturally, all of these online college programs require online adjuncts to teach the classes, and since the business model, as explained above, is to deliberately use as many online adjuncts and traditional adjuncts as possible to teach the classes, there are more and more online instructor job openings. Thus, the term “online instructor job openings” is actually an academic/economic/social construct. Further, the expense of maintaining physical college classrooms is already overwhelming for most college and universities given that they require heating and cooling and janitorial services, and the lure of very inexpensive software and computer servers that allow these same schools to offer online college classes, and, therefore, avoid completely the issues of providing at great expense to taxpayers, students administrative salaries and such physical objects as desks, chairs, blackboards, light bulbs and floor wax, is irresistible to academic bean counters. It is those same academic administrators that are making the online instructor job openings so populous. Additionally, as distance education technology advances, and it most surely will advance since it of such good use to college administrators and the board of regents members who have investments in the technology industries, there will only be more and more new, returning and continuing college students enrolling in the on line college classes offered by the online master degree program, the online bachelor degree program or the elementary education degree online.

My comment is this: I have applied for so many online teaching positions that I have almost decided that it is a joke! I have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. I am currently retired with over 25 years of work experience, not all classroom experience but I worked in a college setting for over 17 years. I feel that during those 17 years, I formed a very good relationship the students. Like I said, I am retired now but due to my income, I am seeking part time work and preferable work I can do from home. Since, I formed good relationship with students when I was in the workforce, this is the area I would like pursue for part time work. However, I am not receiving very much assistance from the institutions frow which I have applied,
I truly feel that I would be an asset to the institution that would allow me the opportunity to become one of their affliates as an online facilitator. But so far, no luck…so I will just keep trying..
