So you want an online faculty position, but you are not quite sure how to find one. Sure, as a college instructor you are finding out right now that life actually can become much worse at a traditional academic institution if the state budget that funds the state academic institutions, be they community colleges, state colleges or state universities, is cut into more with each passing day. Literally, the funds that pay your dab each semester comes from a dwindling pool of funds, and you surely must know now that you are expendable if it comes down to a choice between you, the adjunct college professor and a tenured faculty member who is nearing retirement and can be coerced into teaching double classes all day long. As a result of these unhappy circumstances, many college instructors are finding that they want, and need, an online faculty position to make ends meet. After all, who does not see the transition to online education taking place before their often disbelieving eyes? The solution to the financial problems created by a shortfall in income is to secure an online faculty position with several schools that offer online accredited degrees such as the online master in teaching, the associate degree online, the online counseling degree and the psychology degree online. 1. Finding a good job can be pretty troublesome. Especially when you have high expectations.

Here are some tips that helped me land the job of my dreams:

    * Plan out your CV, if you’ve never done a CV before, this is the time to learn.
    * Think about all the jobs you are qualified for. This may lead to discovering additional jobs you could land.
    * Don’t neglect any source of jobs : internet, newspaper, radio and other media. Ask your friends that have similar jobs if there may be an opening in their company.
    * Don’t just send the resume by email and wait for an answer. You need to call them and have them confirm the job opening and receiving your resume.

Finding a job is pretty much a job in itself and it’s all about how well can you market your abilities.

I quite agree with you! Seeking an online faculty position in this labor market requires a great deal of preparation. The search for accredited online degree programs to apply to is a big job by itself.

  3. Hoppingmadjunct says:

This article makes online teaching sound like a panacea. And its explanation of the economic dynamics that make adjunct positions attractive to administrators is dead-on. But another word for those dynamics is exploitation: the reason adjunct need to teach at multiple campuses is that none pays a living wage, not to mention anything like an equitable one compared to full-time colleagues sometimes teaching the exact same courses. And online courses demand at least as much time as face-to-face ones, if not more — and often pay much less. The one online venue I’ve explored — in a total of maybe 12 hours online application process — offered me only $1500 a course, the same starting pay as a newly credentialed teacher, in spite of my 20 years classroom experience. Online teaching sounds like the same old gouge, just a different gouger.

  4. adjunct says:

Yes! There is a great deal of exploitation of adjuncts seeking an online faculty position, and it will probably continue in the future. Frankly, given the circumstances, it seems as if teaching adjunct for multiple online bachelor’s degree programs is about all that is available to the average academic. The atmosphere at state-funded schools must be awful right now.
